Jane Austen’s Chawton

Chawton is the delightful village near Alton in Hampshire that was the home of Jane Austen for the last eight years of her life.

We will visit Jane Austen’s House. It was here that Jane’s genius flourished and where she wrote, revised and had published all six of her globally beloved novels. It houses an unparalleled collection of Austen treasures including Jane’s jewellery, letters, first editions of her novels and the table at which she wrote her much loved novels.

We will also visit Chawton House, which was owned by Jane’s brother Edward. The House, Garden & Parkland are home to an extensive collection of early women’s writing, Austen heirlooms and historic landscape features including a wilderness and a ha-ha.

There will be time for lunch and a short walk in the village, perhaps taking in St Nicholas’s Church, where Janes mother and sister are buried, and the Jane Austen statue.

The trip includes entry fees to both houses and a guided tour and tea & coffee at Chawton House.
