Visit and Tour, Hampton Court Thursday 13th October

On this trip we will visit the Royal Palace of Hampton Court with a two hour  personal guided tour.

Building at the palace began in 1514 for Cardinal Wolsey but became the home of Henry VIII in 1529 and is one of two of his palaces that still survive. A century later William III extended and rebuilt the palace leaving it with its very distinct and contrasting Tudor and Baroque styles.

Our personal tour will be led by Sarah Slater who is a senior guide at the palace. Sarah gave us a fascinating talk about the palace at one of our general meetings last year. The tour will explore the Great Tudor Kitchens before moving up to the Tudor rooms where Henry VIII lived. We will visit the Great Hall and the famous Holbein portrait of the king. The Baroque palace holds the extensive apartments of William III where he lived and met visitors.

There is a lot to cover, more than is possible in two hours so we will have time to explore on our own after the tour. In addition, in the garden there is the Great Vine, Tudor pond gardens, privy garden, kitchen garden, rose garden and of course the famous maze.

The Tiltyard Café is open for lunch after our tour or you could bring a packed lunch to eat in the gardens as you explore them.

Most of the palace is fully accessible and there is a lift to the first floor for those who may need it.
