Life on the Home Front
What happened on the Home Front during WW2 and how did men, women and children keep the country going? Some very surprising facts, first hand memories, music and hundreds of photos.
Speaker: Karen and Bret Wiles took early retirement to buy a Dutch Barge called Edith to live on with our cat ‘Bosun’. They are continuous cruisers, which means that they move almost every day and no day is ever the same. It is a great life and they embrace the countryside, wildlife and people they meet along the way. Bret was an antique dealer and fostered a love of war-time memorabilia from a very early age. Karen’s career was in IT as a trainer. So, what drew them to 1940s re-enactment? They took a trip to Stoke Bruerne, Village at War in 2017 and were overwhelmed by the displays and re-enactors. They were so enthusiastic that they wanted to do something like that so the idea formed to make a display of memorabilia. These days they spend their time adding to their collection, giving talks and thinking of new displays.
