Visit to Salisbury Cathedral, Wednesday 31st August
Our trip will be centered around a visit and guided tour of the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral with time to also explore the Cathedral Close (the largest in Britain with its museums and tea rooms) and the nearby city centre.
The Cathedral was built between 1310 – 1330 and houses the tallest spire in Britain at 123m above the ground. The Cathedral also contains the worlds oldest working mechanical clock built in 1386. However, possibly the most famous part of the Cathedral is the permanent display of one of the four remaining original 1215 Magna Carta, possibly the most important written historical document in British history. Our tour is led by a local volunteer in small groups of 10-15 and will visit the medieval clock, font, chapels, quire, tombs, and the stained-glass windows, ending in the Chapter House before leading to the Magna Carta.
