Architecture
Group Leader: Alan Barton
We are once again meeting on the 2nd Wednesday of the month in members' homes with the possibility of a hybrid meeting if necessary. We do not usually meet in August or December.
About our Group
We have completed a series of meetings on Railway Architecture from all around the world, which included China, Thailand, Paris Metro, St.Pancras, The Glacier Express and the Stoosbahn funicular and culminated in a trip on the Elizabeth Line in July 2022.
Our last topic was 'Cities and Towns from scratch' where we studied the buildings of great places anywhere in the world: Brasilia, St Petersburg, Nur Sultan, capital of Kazakhstan, and Ashgabat, capital of Turkmenistan
Our last theme was Cambridge Colleges, and we are now learning about the wide variety of Town Halls around the country.
Past topics have included
- How We built Britain - a Thousand Years of British History
- Buildings of St. Petersburg
- Prodigy Houses with a visit to Hatfield House
