Topic: The Curious Disappearance of Major Glenn Miller

This talk will look at this American big band conductor, arranger, composer, trombone player, and recording artist before and during World War II, when he was an officer in the US Army Air Forces. His civilian band, Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was one of the most popular and successful bands of the 20th century and the big band era. It will then attempt to unravel the mystery of the famous bandleader’s disappearance en route to Paris in December 1944.

Speaker: Tony Eaton had a long career in the Healthcare industry, most recently as

Director of the London & Thames Valley Pharmaceutical Group. His chief leisure interest is the music of the “Big Band Era” – especially that of Glenn Miller who brought his wartime all-star service orchestra to Britain in 1944. Tony is a recognised authority on the subject, having has been a member of the international Glenn Miller Society since 1955 and, in recent years, the main UK contributor to its ‘Moonlight Serenader’ magazine.
